Sulo Hotel Riviera, A Shelter from The Storm

Getting stuck outside when it’s raining is the worst thing that can happen, especially when going home. I was unfortunate enough to be in this predicament a few weeks ago when the only nearby place I could stay in was at Sulo Hotel Riviera in Quezon City.

With the storm suddenly hitting and all public transport delayed, I didn’t want to wait for hours for a Grab Car. Fortunately, I was able to get a room at the hotel, even if it was just the basic one.

The Deluxe Twin room was at PHP 4,727 for their default rates, which meant that I could start off with a free breakfast the next day. More importantly, I could stay the night, clean myself up, and get ready for tomorrow.

Even for a basic room, the interiors were stylish and softly lit with lamps from the bedside and ceiling. The beds were comfortable enough to get a breather from all the walking.

The best part? There was free Wi-Fi access so I could keep in touch with my friends.

While I did have to move the nightstand next to the bed slightly to reach the outlet and plug my phone, the rest of the night was as comfortable as it could get.

After getting some rest, I headed down to the restaurant to get some dinner since it was still pouring outside. As tired as I was, I could still appreciate the tastefully decorated dining space that blended well with the hotel’s lounge. The buffet served a selection of both Filipino and international dishes, which were more than enough to fill me up for the rest of the night.

I even decided to check out the Divino Lounge for some cocktails, and relax as I watched the rain from inside the bar.

The bathrooms also had a hot and cold shower and amenities like soap and shampoo, so winding down for the night was no problem. Sleeping in was as comfy as expected. The beds were soft enough that my back felt better than it was last night.

The next morning, I even managed to snag that free buffet breakfast from the hotel’s Cafe Paraiso and finally book a Grab going home.

For a simple overnight stay, it felt like I definitely got my money’s worth for a room with a free breakfast. It’s a place I’d look forward to staying in again if I’m in the area for a business trip.
